Spring is well and truly with us and the warm, sunny weather and lighter evenings are a joy at Battlefield 1403.
With Easter having taken place last weekend, the team were busy with preparations to ensure that you were offered the best food and drink for the season.
Introducing a new supplier to the shop, as with a new menu in the Café, is an exciting time and few have grabbed the imagination as much as our latest new arrival to the deli counter. Powells Pies tick all of our boxes, being a local business, hand producing a superb product – and using the same recipe handed down through generations of the family. With the choice of plain in large or small sizes, there is no reason to expand the range. Do try one when you next visit.
Producers and their products were in abundance at this years Farm Shop & Deli show in Birmingham and I had the pleasure of attending once again. The show provides a great opportunity to seek out new suppliers, as well as catch up with existing ones. Keep an eye out in the shop for more new products coming soon.
Outside, the warm kinder weather has bought the balloonists out and we are delighted to once again be a launch site for Virgin balloon flights. If you notice a large red balloon above the Shrewsbury area, the chance is that it started off at Battlefield 1403.
On a more historic note, we have a special development taking place below the farm at Battlefield Church. After some years of careful planning, Battlefield Church’s lych gate is undergoing restoration. This stunning piece of architecture is a blend of Jacobean and later Victorian workmanship (originating from nearby Upton Magna). Sadly, it has slowly fallen into disrepair, becoming unsafe. This important restoration work will now ensure that the Battlefield Lychgate stays functional for generations to come. A re-opening ceremony is planned for later in the Summer, details to follow.
