Jeremy Jagger's Monthly Blog – January 2024

2024 is already shaping up to be an exciting and eventful year both across the farm and at Battlefield 1403.

We are just days away from the arrival of our first lambs with our flock of North Country Mules all ready in their winter housing.

All of the cattle are also indoors, with around 50 expectant mothers due to calve in the spring.

In between lambing and groundwork our farm team are always maintaining machinery and doing their best to keep the yards clear and as tidy as possible.

The ground itself is finally drying out after a particularly wet month, so thankfully we have been able to get on to the fields and drill some Winter Wheat.  Despite the wet conditions we’ve all endured this winter, we are hopeful that there won’t be too much re drilling to do in the Spring.

Across at Battlefield 1403, and after a smooth run into Christmas, we were overwhelmed by all of the customer support we received over the festive period – you certainly kept us very busy, my thanks to you for all of your support.

Our attention has now turned to finalising the annual events calendar, with the organisers of Plant Hunters Fair returning in May, quickly followed by Open Farm Sunday in June, Battle of Shrewsbury Medieval Weekend in July, alongside some smaller events such as our evening ‘Seasonal Supper Clubs’ and more exciting plans for the Autumn...please see our full events list here

Remaining on site please keep an eye out for new products in the shop, butchery and deli, some special promotions and offers, a Spring menu coming soon in Sparrow's Café and our daily specials boards too. We’ve also some planned developments in the visitor centre and Woodshed.  Improvements to the ride-on tractor barn including the introduction of our farm nursery pen where at special times throughout the year, you will be able to meet some of our latest farm additions.

This year will also see Battlefield hit the road again with some appearances at some of our local county events in Shrewsbury, so please keep checking in on our website and look out for our weekly emails for further details of what’s happening at Battlefield 1403 and Albrighton estate.
