The ‘drought’ now seems to have come to an end for now with some good heavy downpours in the last week or two. While this is very welcome in the fields, it would be nice to protect the Battlefield 1403 farmstead. What’s good for one area, isn’t always ideal for another.
Staying with the fields, the Spring drilling has been completed this month, and a nice even carpet of green is visible from the windows and over hedges. Surrounding much of Battlefield this Summer we have maize, something to look out for if you are walking our nature trail.
This year’s pumpkins have also been drilled this month – 2 acres of a mixed variety of pumpkins went into some rather dry ground however very early shoots are starting to appear. Finally on the arable subject we are trying our first acre of Sunflowers. We are very excited to see how these develop and hope to have an exciting attraction for you later in the Summer, do watch this space.
Inside we continue to source interesting new products to add to our range in the shop. Two of note this month are Cider from Newton Court in Hereford and pork scratchings from The Shropshire Scratching Company. Both small to medium, privately owned businesses produce a great product. They also help us enforce our mission of ‘Supporting Local’ whenever possible.
