Whilst still cold and often wet outside there is the sense that Spring could be on the way.
This time of year is always popular at Battlefield 1403 and the focus continues on what’s next on our calendar. First up was Pancake Day and a menu of sweet and savoury pancakes was produced for the week in the Café.
Two weeks later we launched our Spring Menu, introducing a range of dishes promoting ingredients, all that are fresh and seasonal at this time of year. Behind the scenes, menu launch day is preceded with a staff gathering evening where new dishes are tasted and discussed. From the point of view of an eager participant, I can thoroughly recommend the Sage & Lemon Stuffed Pork Belly with Crushed New Potatoes, Pancetta, Asparagus and Green Beans and also the Asparagus, Spinach, Pea and Feta Risotto with a Rocket & Basil Pesto, amongst many others to choose from. This new menu has been well received and remains accompanied by our daily specials board adding even more choice.
Outside thoughts have been turning to our events field behind the shop and plans are underway to once again open up our pumpkin field. With our confidence in growing increasing, another new addition is planned to arrive soon – please look out for more details in next month’s blog.
Finally, I mentioned last month of our impending visit from the FRA (Farm Retail Association). Early butterflies that morning soon gave way to excitement as we welcomed a coach load of 44 fellow farm shop owners and managers from around the county. I was genuinely proud to show them all around and talk about what we do. These occasions are vitally important to share knowledge and experiences and both the delegate group, the Battlefield 1403 team and I gained a great deal from the event.
