The Sword of Shrewsbury 13th September 2008

On Saturday 13th September, longbow archers from all over England and Wales will be competing for a trophy, "The Sword of Shrewsbury".  This is possibly the first time since 1403 that there have been longbows shooting on the site of the battle of Shrewsbury.

In the morning, starting around 10.00 am, there will be "Clout" shooting when archers aim for a post in the ground 180 yards away, simulating battle conditions.  This is near the maximum range for most modern longbows so the arrows will be flying high in the air!

In the afternoon there will be "Target" shooting when the archers will be shooting at 4ft diameter targets up to 60 yards away.

Both parts of the event will be according to the rules of the "British Longbow Society" where shooting will take place in two opposite directions.

Spectators will be welcomed and there will be designated safe areas for viewing.

The event is organised and hosted by "Bowbrook Archers", a local archery club.
